Barcode Scanning
StockrHub supports barcode scanning to speed up stock counts and stock transfers. You can use your device’s built-in camera or a connected Bluetooth/USB barcode scanner.
How Barcode Scanning Works
Section titled “How Barcode Scanning Works”StockrHub’s barcode scanning uses your device’s camera to read barcodes in real time. When a barcode is scanned, StockrHub looks up the matching product in your Shopify catalog by barcode value and automatically adds it to the current operation (stock count or stock transfer).
If you have a dedicated hardware barcode scanner connected via Bluetooth or USB, it works by emulating keyboard input. StockrHub detects the rapid input and processes it as a barcode scan.
Supported Barcode Formats
Section titled “Supported Barcode Formats”StockrHub recognizes the following barcode formats:
| Format | Type | Common Use |
|---|---|---|
| Code 128 | 1D | General-purpose, shipping labels |
| EAN-13 | 1D | International retail products |
| UPC-A | 1D | North American retail products |
| QR Code | 2D | Custom product identifiers, URLs |
Scanning in Stock Counts
Section titled “Scanning in Stock Counts”Barcode scanning streamlines the stock counting process:
- Create or open a stock count — navigate to Stock Counts and either create a new count or open an existing draft.
- Activate the scanner — click the Scan button to activate the camera or scanner input.
- Scan items — point your camera at a product’s barcode or use your hardware scanner.
- Auto-increment quantities — each scan of the same barcode increments the counted quantity by one. This means you can rapidly scan identical items without manually entering numbers.
- Review and adjust — after scanning, review the counted quantities. You can manually adjust any values if needed.
- Submit the count — once all items are scanned and verified, submit the stock count.
Scanning in Stock Transfers
Section titled “Scanning in Stock Transfers”When creating or processing a stock transfer between locations:
- Create a stock transfer — navigate to Stock Transfers and click New Transfer. Select the source and destination locations.
- Activate the scanner — click the Scan button.
- Scan items to add — scan each product barcode to add it to the transfer. Each scan adds one unit of the scanned product.
- Adjust quantities — if transferring multiple units of the same item, you can either scan the barcode multiple times or manually edit the quantity after the initial scan.
- Complete the transfer — review the items and quantities, then submit the transfer.
Tips for Optimal Scanning
Section titled “Tips for Optimal Scanning”Lighting
Section titled “Lighting”- Ensure adequate lighting when using camera-based scanning.
- Avoid direct glare on the barcode surface.
- If scanning in a warehouse, consider using your device’s flashlight feature.
Distance and Angle
Section titled “Distance and Angle”- Hold your device 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 cm) from the barcode.
- Keep the barcode within the scanning frame displayed on screen.
- Hold the device steady — avoid excessive movement while the scanner is reading.
Barcode Quality
Section titled “Barcode Quality”- Ensure barcodes are clean and free of damage, wrinkles, or smudges.
- Faded or partially torn barcodes may not scan reliably.
- If a barcode will not scan, try cleaning it or manually searching for the product by name or SKU.
Hardware Scanners
Section titled “Hardware Scanners”- Bluetooth scanners should be paired with your device before opening StockrHub.
- USB scanners work immediately when connected — no additional setup is required.
- Hardware scanners are generally faster and more reliable than camera-based scanning, especially in high-volume scenarios.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Issue | Solution |
